As an artist, I have always expressed myself in many different mediums, including charcoal, pen and ink, illustration, painting and mixed media. Art takes many forms and I love them all, especially when it allows me to share a glimpse into my world.

Illustration
This assignment was to create a Travel Poster representing an excerpt form a story. The story needed to be conveyed in the mood, style and setting of the poster. I completed this assignment with careful consideration of the fantasy story I had selected and identifying key elements within the narrative. The story I chose was “The Young Tamlane” by Mary McGregor, which depicts the Scottish fairy tale of elves, fairies, and fairy rings. The excerpt captured my imagination and, using watercolors and pen and ink, I utilized playful colors and nighttime scenery to capture the whimsy of the tale.
Digital Editing
This piece was also done in my drawing class and was my first experience of formally using watercolor pencils. While I was unhappy with the finished product, I decided to use this opportunity to use both Photoshop and Illustrator to improve the lighting, background and shadow that was lacking the handmade piece. Lastly, I displayed the original with the final digitally framed piece to display the contrast from beginning to end. This piece has been used in an advertising mockup that can be seen on the Advertising page.
